December News

Newsletter for Ruby in Her Own Time-Spelling Test and Reading Test will be TUESDAY  Dec. 20th.

We will be going on our field trip on Thursday Nov. 8th to see The Best Christmas Pagent Ever. I asked students at the end of the day to wear red.  This way it will be easier to keep our class together.

Our reading test have changed with the new reading story.  As you can tell, these stories are longer and tougher.  The test has changed to 15 questions.  It will still have questions using the high frequency words at the beginning of the story and questions about the story.  The last 2 quesitons are in essay form.  For the first few test, I will give students a beginner statement to answer the question.  We also go over these throughout the week.  Please review the new format with your child.  Thanks.

Graded papers will come home on Friday.  Please forgive me for returning them so late.  After being out Monday for sickness, the rest of the week has been very crazy.

Spelling Test and Reading Test will be TUESDAY  Dec. 20th.

3.   try          9. silly
4.   any        10. puppy
5.   body      11. things

If by some chance we are out again tomorrow, it may be that we move the spelling test to next Monday.  I will let you know for sure.

Homework tonight: Students should read with you the story "An Egg is an Egg."  Please sign your child's Bee Book to say that they read.

Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a great and restful Fall Break.  I apologize for not  updating the website recently.  I am hoping to get back onto a regular schedule  This week each student has an individual trade book that they will be reading.  The students will be completing a book report in class.  They will identify the characters, setting, beginning, middle, and end.  Students will also be writing about their favorite part.  They will present their poster on Thursday and Friday to the class.  I have connected both the newsletter and an information sheet about the pumpkin book reports.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

A Grand Week Ahead!

Happy Birthday Johnny Appleseed!  On Monday, we will begin our week long celebration of seasons, apples, and weather.  We will be talking about how seasons and weather change throughout the year.  Friday, we will conclude our celebration with a taste testing party of various uses of apples.  Please look over the newsletter for items to send in.  Also on Friday we will wear pots on our head and pass out grass seed in honor of Johnny Appleseed.  Please send with your child a cooking pot to wear.

Also, this week we will be finishing up our study on animal habitats.  Students should pick an animal and design its habitat in a box (shoe box, cereal box, etc).  These should be brought to school no later than Thursday, Sept. 29th.  Students should also write one sentence to match their habitat.  More information is on the newsletter.  Animal Park Newsletter

Newsletter for A Fox and a Kit and other bits of information

Hey everyone!  Sorry I am posting this late.  Here is the newsletter for this week.  A Fox and a Kit Newsletter

This week we have many exciting events going on.  We went to the library on Monday to visit the Book Fair.  If you did not send in money and would like for your child to purchase a book, you can still send it in and they will go in the morning.

We also have Grandparent's Day tomorrow.  We ask that only grandparents that signed up attend.  Grandparents are welcome to take their grandchild to the book fair too.

Finally, this week we have been Think Link testing.  This is a baseline test in first grade taken on the computer.  Students took the math portion this morning and will take the reading portion tomorrow.  This will give us an indication of their growth from the beginning to the end of the year.

Tuesday's Tip

The Scott Foresman website just to the right, under Websites We Love, has many great resources.  One way for students to study spelling words while playing a game is in the Spelling Game section.  It already has the words for the week programmed in.  There are three different games to play.  This is a great way for students to become more familiar with the words in a fun way.  Check it out!  : )
