Mission Statement
The
mission of Spring City Elementary School is to ensure that all students achieve
their optimal learning in a safe environment. The faculty and staff will provide opportunities for meeting
the intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and technological needs of a
diverse population of students.
Introduction
Welcome
to 1st Grade. I feel
this is a warm, safe, and caring academic environment where your child will be
able to learn and grow. I feel
that all children are valuable individuals who should be treated with dignity
and respect. In turn, I ask the
same of my students. First Grade
is a crucial educational year. I
believe by working closely with parents and students we will all be able to see
great strides in academics and character.
The following information will help you become familiar with our class, rules, schedules, and other important information happening throughout this year.

year of Kindergarten in Cleveland, TN.
It is my desire and passion to do all I can to enrich and expand your

Daily
B.E.E. Books/Backpacks
Your
child’s folder will be called their B.E.E. Book standing for Bring Everything
Everyday. This folder will be a
place for you to send in notes, lunch money, permission slips, etc. Students will also bring home their
daily work and graded assignments in this folder. Students will be expected to have this folder everyday. Please begin the year with a routine of
checking your child’s folder each night.
A student planner will also be included in the folder. Each day students will color a part of
the planner that matches their behavior for the day. This gives you a daily report on your child’s behavior
performance. This folder is your child’s responsibility. The best way to support this responsibility is by providing
your child with a backpack (no wheels, please) and helping them learn the
responsibility of bringing it to school on a daily basis.
Schedule-
The
schedule will be presented at a later date.
Classroom
Rules
As within the school and all other classrooms, our
class has a set of rules that all students are expected to follow. We want all parents and students to be
aware of the rules and expectations.
1.
Follow directions first time given.
2.
Listen with eyes and ears.
3.
Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
4.
Treat classmates and teachers with respect.
5.
Work jobs should be completed quietly with thought and effort.
This is what my behavior chart looks like. It will begin with the
colors of the rainbow. ROY G.
BIV Red Orange Yellow Green Blue
Indigo Violet. Everyone will
start in the middle on green “Ready to learn.” Students may move their clip up or down the behavior chart
throughout the day. Students may
move up to Good Job (Yellow) Great Job (Orange) Outstanding (Red). Students may also move their clip down
for misbehavior from green to Blue (Make Better Choices) Indigo (Teacher’s
Choice) Violet (Parents
Contacted.) Please note that at
the beginning of the year I will be enforcing rules heavily. This sets
expectations for the desired classroom behavior.
Students
will color in their daily calendar to indicate what color they were on at the
end of the day. Please make sure
to check this daily. Your
encouragement of positive behavior and attention to behavior
that should improve is very important.

Newsletter
Communication
between teacher and parent is a key ingredient in a successful school
year. A newsletter covering our
classroom activities will be apart of your child’s folder on Friday. It is every parent’s responsibility to
read each newsletter. The
newsletter will identify the upcoming story, skills, and activities for the
week. PLEASE make sure to read the
newsletter weekly!! ****The
newsletter will also be updated weekly on my classroom website***
Change
in pick-up for child
Students
may be picked-up from school in several different ways. If for any reason
your child’s regular schedule is changed a note MUST sent in to inform
me or the school of the changes. It is my absolute desire to know each
child is safely getting to their after school location.
Money
Lunch
money should be sent in on Monday of every week. Students will have pencil pouch in their B.E.E. book that
money can be placed in. Please
make sure it is sealed and clearly labeled with what money is for.
Lunch
Number
Each
child will be assigned a number from the cafeteria. It is important that your child learn their number in the
first few weeks of school. We will help them during the beginning. Your child’s number will be sent home
on the first day.
School
Parties
Our
classroom has two planned parties; Christmas and Valentine’s Day. However, I feel that birthdays are one
of the most important days of their life.
If you would like, we allow parents to send cupcakes or some type of
snack for the class. (ALL SNACKS
MUST BE STORE BOUGHT) If you wish
to do so, please let me know at least one day in advance so I can plan a
specific time to celebrate. If
your child’s birthday is during the summer, I will set aside a day in May for a
pretend birthday.
****Please
be mindful of any food allergies later noted****
Book
Clubs
I
will be sending home Scholastic Book Club forms occasionally. Students enjoy receiving and reading
books of their own. It is up to
you to purchase books or not. The
club is a good way to purchase books at a discount price. If you decide to
order books, please return the form and money by the date assigned.
Additional
Information
Spelling
Test, Reading Test, Writing, etc. –Expectations and requirements regarding
these and other 1st grade curriculum standards will be discussed and
explained during the Open House in late August. Please make sure to attend to learn more about our academic
expectations.
Welcome
back again to Spring City Elementary School and to First Grade!!
I
am thrilled to be working with your child this year. It will be an exciting time filled with new experiences and
adventures. I have included a poem about the relationship between teacher and
parent. I value you and your child
and look forward to getting to know your family. Again, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to
speak with me at any time. This is
a welcome classroom for everyone!
