Hey! Happy November! This week we will be reading The Big Circle. Please read this with your child. Here is the NEWSLETTER for this week. Pumpkin pictures coming soon!! : )
It is important that students start to hear when what they are reading doesn't make sense. Try to wait to correct your child until they have read the entire sentence then ask...Did that sound right? Look right? Make sense?
Thanks to those who were able to make it to conferences tonight. Communication between teacher and parent is key.

1st Grade Luau
On Wed, May 23rd we will have a Luau/Pizza “year end” party for all 1st grade. This has changed due to rescheduling in the office. Your child may come to school dressed for the luau. Grass skirts, Hawaiian shirts, sunglasses, and hats are all appropriate. We will spend time outside playing games and doing fun activities. **Mr. Johnston has asked that the Luau be for students and teachers only. Parents will not be part of this party.
Be sure to keep reading throughout the summer. Students must practice to maintain all they have learned. Students will be bringing home their workbooks and should use any extra pages we did not finish for practice.
Thank you so much for a great year! I have truly enjoyed each of your children. I know they will do great in 2nd grade and in life. I am privileged to have had the opportunity to work with them and will always hold them dear to my heart. Thank you again for all you have done in our adventures this year. Visit any time.
I will be sending home the words they will be learning in second grade. It doesn’t hurt to get a head start.

Please practice identifying each coin and its value with your child. I have sent home today examples of “touch point” on coins. Please work with your child on the “Take-Home Learning Tote.” Please pick 3 of the activities on the Learning tote and sign it to say they were complete. Students who complete this challenge will earn free choice centers day.

Today we began a fun project with a character called Flat Stanley. He was flattened by a bulletin board and now is “as flat as a pancake.” He is able to go on many adventures with this change. Students will be bring Flat Stanley home to spend a few days with you and should come back with a journal about his time spent with your family. We will be mailing our Flat Stanley’s all over the country and world over Spring Break. Please see the information sheet that came home today. You will need to get the address of a relative or friend we can send your child’s Flat Stanley. Please try to send them to people outside of Spring City who will be willing to participate with our project. We would love to see pictures, postcards, emails, etc. Here is a website of other places that Flat Stanley has traveled. He also has a Facebook page.
